Ontario’s auditor general said Wednesday that the Ford government has reached “surprising” levels of non-compliance with a decades-old environmental law requiring ministries to adequately consult the public.
Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk, who releases annual reports on the province’s compliance with environmental laws, found that multiple government ministries were acting counter to their obligations under the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR). The law sets out the rules for public consultation and disclosure around environmentally significant proposals.
